Happy 2008 everyone!
How were your holidays? Mine were... well... I am writing a new song called "Christmas with the Stomach Flu," if that paints you the unpleasant picture. With any luck I'll be premiering it at my Red Eyed Fly gig on Wednesday, January 9th at 8pm (doors open at 7:30).
I need you there. Don't worry, I am no longer contagious.
Seriously. There is a lot at stake with this gig...
First, if I can get 20 people to come to see me and the band they'll let me play a Saturday show in February for the editor of INsite Magazine's B-day party. Sean Claes is a good friend and he wants me to play his party. It's gonna rock! I'll promote that gig as soon as I overcome this first hurdle.
Second, there will be a film crew out at the club that night filming a BBC rockumentary. I can't give many details... only that the crew is for real. If you're there you'll have to sign a film release. So dress like the rock star you are and get ready to be on camera... from what I understand this film will be seen by a wide audience. If you're shy don't sign the release. Then you can have a blurred head like on cops.
Other bands on the bill for this all-ages show include Velvet Brick http://www.myspace.com/velvetbrickrocks at 9pm and The Unnamed Project For Revenge http://www.myspace.com/theunnamedprojectforrevenge at 10pm. It's 5 dollars for adults and 8 dollars for minors.
In addition to Adam and the band at their naughtiest, I'll give you one of my CDs, Naughty Bits, for free with every door fee paid. These CDs go for 10 dollars so it's a bargain when you think about it.
If the money part is tough for you I understand. Let me know after the show and we'll work something out.
Other gigs are coming up... I'll fill you in with all of that soon. But first things first! Please be 1 of the 20 people I need at the Red Eyed Fly http://www.recordhigh.net/redeyedfly/ this Wednesday January 9th at 8pm.
Adam Donmoyer is an unconventional and unpredictable artist who combines an ear for melody with a pop culture sensibility that celebrates the absurd. His training as a stage performer has helped him craft a piano-driven, modern-day pop cabaret act that has won over audiences of all types, in addition to critical acclaim. The subject matter of his story songs runs the gamut, and they usually include an O'Henry twist that keeps listeners guessing until the end.
"Similarities to Tom Lehrer and Randy Newman come to mind when I listen to Adam's music. His approach is warped and wonderful, and he is not afraid to be unique and himself," said Wilory Records recording artist Terri Hendrix.
Through the satire, Adam's songs have been honored for their serious undertones. A song inspired by a schizophrenic cousin who believes himself to be Jesus Christ recently contributed to his nomination for the "Humbie Heart Award" from Humble Time: The Texas Songwriters' Radio Showcase. A favorite at Humble Time, Adam often leaves people laughing so hard, they cry. He calls his music "tragically funny."
"Adam's like a car accident: you walk by, and you can't take your eyes off of him," says producer David Love of Love Monkey Studios.
Adam is most enchanting on stage, where he forges an instant bond with even the largest of audiences. His new album Naughty Bits was just released. He hopes the album will be an opportunity for new listeners and devoted fans alike to hear at home what they love when they see him on stage.
Adam has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Otterbein College. He hosted "Songwriters in the Round" on the Austin Music Network; played in the house band for Humble Time: The Texas Songwriters' Radio Showcase; served as co-president of the Austin Songwriters Group; teaches piano at The Austin School of Music; and writes copy and music for an ad agency in Austin.
